25th February

We have been in a gale ever since put Yap astern of us, clouds scudding across the sky ,with winds up to 40 kts as the rain squalls hit us.  Just to add to the ‘motion of the ocean’, we have a 3-4 metre swell too, so the stabilisers are working overtime.  A vast swath of the Pacific is being affected and we were lucky with the weather yesterday. Clocks back another hour tonight and we have 24 hours before reach the San Bernardino Straits.

Meetings and emails for most of the day and an anniversary party (guests) in the evening.  I mentioned yesterday that some took advantage of Yap’s famed scuba diving and amongst them were some of my officers.  I take the attitude of ‘work hard, play hard’ and time off for them is important, life at sea needs some break from the serious nature of ship operations.

I was therefore surprised and thrilled when I was shown the results of their day’s endeavours and have managed to post a video, (yeah!)

These magnificent creatures come in over the reef for a ‘cleaning’, the smaller fish will feed off the algae (and anything else edible).  I am so jealous, being able to watch in such close proximity.

And to make my evening, Sam, my daughter sent me a photo of Emily, she looks scrumptious and her laugh had me laughing too 😆 .

  1. Happy to report, no problems now. Thank you very much and I think Emily looks very much like her Grand Dad!

  2. Emily has me laughing, too. She is precious as is Violet. Love the pictures of them. I like it that you have a soft spot in your heart for your granddaughters. Would love to sail with you someday.
