The day before our arrival in Colombo, a ‘boat building’ competition, taking place around the Lido pool, contestants having built their boats with material on board, (most of it recycled).
An early arrival to this port, 5 a.m. and it’s around these times that I wonder what I’m doing this for 😯 because I love it, that’s why.
A time-lapse, both arrival and departure:-

Karen, Jay, (the Fitness instructor) and I went off for a jaunt around the city. We had been here before of course, Jay had not, so in a car to visit temples and generally see the sights
Then onto the Gangarama Buddhist temples. One had to remove shoes, prior to entering and, with no shade from the sun, my feet suffered on the hot paving and wood…….
And a video, so much better for you to get a flavour of the city……
A stop for lunch, (curry of course) and then back to the ship, for me anyway; the ladies stopped off at the market stalls near the ship.
Thank you Captain! Another very cool and fun read! BV Lew
Question: How many nautical miles does Amsterdam accrue in a typical year, and how does that compare with fleet average?
Now that is some video sail in and sail away no need to change the dial! Thanks! Glad you do not mind those early get ups to much so that we on dry land can enjoy your film making. Best to you and yours!
What a joy to watch your incredible videos and be able to see how much the city has developed since I was there 32 yrs ago in the 1980s. I was fortunate to be in country for two weeks and in many of the towns and villages. Thanks so much for sharing the now developed city with so many of us.
Capt. Jonathan,
Thanks for your blog and great photos. Brought back fond memories of last year. Please say hi to Amanda, Fitness Instructor from me.
Regards & Cheers,
We’ve been in many parts of the world, lived in some of them for a year or more, traveled eight times on your ships which we love, but now can’t do that any more. So we love your descriptions and pictures. It’s a way we can still travel. Thank you again.
I love your picture of the ‘tight squeeze’. It’s really beautiful! And seeing the temple’s of Sri Lanka brought back fond memories.
Hugs to K1! Miss you on the Island 🙂
Love this place…. we took a hire car with local driver to Kandy…. I have never seen so many varieties of banana, including a red variety.
After a long day, the driver took us back to the bosses house where they had dinner prepared for us!
Wonderful video’s
Keep safe & well
The pics are fantastic! The temples are so beautiful and peaceful.
Thank you! ☺️
