At sea

8th and 9th January

Thank you all so much for your comments, it’s always nice to read them and get all the feedback  🙂

I write a journal, just a few lines each day and thought, in these days at sea, while it is quieter, I would add them to the posts.

“Slowly settling in, suitcases and sea-trunk have gone into storage, more room in the cabin at last.  Captain’s Introductions last night, 15 officers or key personnel.  We have stopped this practice fleet-wide, however a Grand Voyage is different in many aspects, this is no exception.  Most of the names I already know, it’s the ‘bios’ that take the time, interesting details on each person to make it more personable.  I do it from memory, haven’t reached the stage of having a scrolling iPad or podium in front of me, it will be time to go if it comes to that…….

Karen and Karen enjoying themselves, gym, knitting, painting, they’re seldom here, which gives me time to attend to ‘affairs of State’.

Passed the Quintosuenos Bank and Cays today, weaving between coral reefs, well to the east of the Mexican coast.  Littered with wrecks from a bygone age, before Satellite navigation, Radar and GPS.

Lovely weather, light Trade winds, calm seas, blue skies, lots of guests enjoying themselves in the sun or shade,

I write now on the 9th, from Puerto Limon; no time to post on this, I’ll do it after the Panama Canal transit.  I have just received our transit times, not set in stone of course, however you may see us on the live web cams of the Canal.

We are 5 hours behind U.K, 6 behind Holland, on Eastern Standard and 3 ahead of West coast.

Gatun locks are 0730-0910

Pedro Miguel  1:20 PM  to 2 pm

Miraflores 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

  2. Watched you go thru the Gatun locks and out the other side — and the Zuiderdam go in and out of the Gatun locks! Now I can get back to my Sunday chores!

  7. Thank you so much for taking the time to write and post your blogs, as well as providing the anticipated times for the Panama Canal transit. We have sailed with you on the GWV in 2012, 2013, and 2015, and I’m definitely enjoying traveling along vicariously this year (though it would be more fun in person)! We have many friends on board with you, both guests and crew.
