We are (slowly) steaming towards Lautoka, Fiji; a sedate speed of 13½ knots to be precise. The weather is still being kind to me, (us), with a moderate Pacific swell, a following wind, (which results in a gentle breeze across the decks) and sunny skies.
This morning, we started to weave our way between the atolls and reefs which comprise the Fijian archipelago; we have 260 miles to go before our compulsory pilot and we arrive tomorrow, which is Wednesday 5th to us, this due to our time and date change on Sunday night. Cruise ships in this area must be few and far between, as we are being called on our VHF radio, (by their skippers), where the ‘beautiful cruise ship’ is bound for.
The 2nd of February disappeared of course and we went straight to Monday, the 3rd. Nevertheless, the Superbowl was still ours to view; a grand time too as Henk and the Hotel department had set up our ‘Queens Lounge’ with big screen TV, hotdogs, pizza and everything else one would expect for a tail-gate party.
I popped down, careful not declare my allegiance to either team, however it was unfortunately obvious by my reaction whenever the Seahawks made a good play. I have made a point of watching them when I could, as they progressed through the qualifiers and as our corporate offices are also in Seattle, it was a no-brainer. Thankfully I was neither lynched nor mobbed by guests despite my occasional reaction to the play. What was obvious was that they all thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the game.
Over the past weeks, I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to post you videos; I am thoroughly frustrated, despite my best efforts, my downloads are seldom successful. We had a wonderful Samoan dance troupe entertain us from the pier before we departed Pago Pago, duly videoed by me, and once compressed, only 6MB, but would it download, nope; after 70 minutes of trying I gave up in frustration. Bare with me on the lack of videos, in my opinion, a video is worth a hundred photos and will persevere.
Greetings Captain, Ron and Carole here, we were fortunate to join you last year on the WC. You may remember us as the ones who wheeled our bikes off the Amsterdam in many of the ports last year, what an adventure we had with you! We are enjoying your blog, and will follow along. This year we are wintering in the FL Keys, and have our own little jet boat along so that we can cruise these ‘skinny’ waters whenever the mood strikes. I must admit, it was far easier when we left the driving to you though – so much to learn when navigating in new waters, and we only have that 12 inch draft to worry about… Cheers, and please say hello to Karen, Henk and Christel for us!
I share your video frustration and have only been successful when connected to a very strong wifi. Not sure what you have on the ship but maybe something suitable is available in port?
