21st January

We have our last day and sea and tomorrow our guests will get their feet on dry land for a while.  The island of Nuku Hiva beckons and its principal town Taiohae.  This lies on the south side of the island, at the head of a horseshoe-shaped bay and should offer some shelter from the north-east winds and seas.

Every port we call at during our World cruise involves a BRM, (Bridge Resource Management) meeting.  This morning was no exception and we discussed the arrival in Nuku Hiva.  All the Nautical officers are involved and the meeting consists of making all aware of how we intend to follow our Passage plan for the arrival; the approach, the ranges and bearings involved, the anchoring procedure, etc.  Once we have safely conducted the operation, we will then conduct a de-brief; much along the same lines, however this time as to whether it went to plan, how could we improve, lessons learned, etc.

Samantha, my eldest daughter, tries to keep me up-to-date with the grandchildren, Olly and Emily.  Yesterday, she sent me Olly’s latest quote, he comes up some beauties and this one is no exception.

So,  at school the other day Olly said in an extremely loud voice to his favourite teacher, in front of everyone, “Katherine you’re the girl of my dreams”!!!  Bearing in mind Katherine is a 40-year old married mother of 2 teenage girls, she thanked him for his kind words and told him it had made her day.

He then came home and started telling Emily and I that we were the girls of his dreams, so I sat him down and tried to explain, with limited success, that although it’s lovely to pay people compliments you can’t say the same thing to everyone all the time as people don’t believe you. I went on to say it’s best to save a compliment for when you really mean it.

Olly’s response? ‘Don’t worry mummy. It’s not cheesy. The girls love it.’ And off he trundled.  🙂

He’s only 4, methinks there’s trouble ahead  😀

Today, I received some photos of Emily, indulging in her dinner, I laughed when I saw them and I hope it provides you with some humour, in this otherwise crazy world we live  in.

I will have my camera to the fore during our day tomorrow and will post when the opportunity presents itself.  Have a wonderful day, won’t you…….
